The Way of The Buzzard
This will probably be my last blog post for a while as I am focusing on developing my practise and moving deeper into the realm of Spirit.
I will be adding useful links and book reviews from time to time but the actual spiritual transformation I am embarking on is a very personal journey which may not mean much to the casual reader. My journeys into the Otherworld will stay personal unless I decide there may be some benefit in sharing them.
My last three posts have all concerned my search for the "right" teacher or teachers. Well, I believe I have found my spiritual home and my "sat gurus" - Jason and Nicola Smalley and The Way of The Buzzard Mystery School.
For many years I have tried hard to convince myself that I could achieve what Carlos Castaneda achieved in his long apprenticeship with don Juan and I have come to realise that that will never be the case. Having spent hours and months working with the techniques of don Carlos and Victor Sanchez, I now accept that I do not have the time or the energy to become a Toltec sorcerer. You need to be young, strong and dedicated, with lots of time to work on the various techniques. I accept that I have left it too late.
So, back to The Way of The Buzzard. I have been aware of this school for some time and initially I thought it was a bit too "witchy" for my taste. But as I came to understand what Jason and Nicola were creating with their Mystery School, it began to tick all the boxes.
I felt it was right to involve myself in the Old Ways of the land in which I live - The British Isles. I don't live in the USA or Mexico or Peru, so why would I want to study the Old Ways of those countries? I am a part of the land where I was born, was raised and still live in. The Way of The Buzzard is very much built around the ancient shamanic traditions of Britain and Northern Europe and this is a vast and rich tradition which stands proud and strong.
But I continued to procrastinate and search from book to book and website to website. Then, one fine sunny afternoon a couple of weeks ago, I was driving home along a country lane in South Oxfordshire after having a swim in the River Thames (something I do often) and an amazing, unusual event took place. A buzzard drew up along side me at the height of my side window and matched my speed as I drove along the narrow, single track lane. The majestic hawk stayed with me for a few long seconds before veering off across the fields.
So, was this a message or an omen or what? I had never been so close to a Buzzard before and this was very unusual behaviour for a bird of prey, so I guessed it had to mean something. When I got home I noticed that Jason and Nicola were doing a free pop up talk on zoom the next evening. I looked in on their presentation on Animal Spirit Medicine and that was it. My heart and my mind finally came together and agreed that this was the path I was looking for. So I joined The Mystery School and am loving every minute of it. Why don't you come and join me?
PS - The picture in this post is where I go swimming in the river.
