Working With Dragons Part Three

This is the last part of my "Working With Dragons" trilogy - at least for now as I haven't encountered Water Dragon yet. So, as you may guess, this is about my encounter with the Earth Dragon. Unlike my two previous experiences, this was an intentional journey to the Underworld to actually meet with a Dragon and ask it a question. If you missed part two, you can find it here.

My inspiration for this journey comes from a Way Of The Buzzard Mystery School journey recording from April 2024 in the Library.

The "intention" for this journey was "How can I better manage my personal power?" After my past two experiences "life" had been throwing me a few curve balls and emotional challenges, so I felt it was appropriate to ask a Dragon for some advice, since it was the Dragon energy that had discombobulated my emotional state. At least, that is the feeling I was getting - I could be mistaken as emotional chaos is not a rare event in my life. 

This journey started from a different place as guided by Jason - the Underworld being a different realm from the Lower World. The Underworld is the realm of the Fae and the home world of the Dragons. Usually one would go alone to the Underworld as the Fae are not keen on "guardian animals" encroaching on their domain but as I was going to visit a Dragon (and not the Fae), I asked two of my Spirit Animals to accompany me - Wolf and Crow.

Here is the first weird bit - as I began to journey, Florence, one of our cats, jumped into my lap and the next thing I know she is on the journey with me! Florence is an amazingly telepathic Empath who is always there to comfort and console when one is having a hard time emotionally. Viv and I give her plenty of healing work to do, poor little soul. Anyway, she had decided that she needed to be involved in this journey, so off we went, the four of us to find the Dragons lair in the Underworld mountains. 

We walk deep into the forest towards a mountain and a large cave entrance. The four of us entered the cave with some trepidation, Wolf by my left side, Florence to my right and Crow on my left shoulder. It is dark but there is a strange luminescence which allows us to see a large Dragon ahead, apparently asleep.

We stop and stare. Wolf sits to heel, Crow craps down my back and Florence leapt into my arms with her tail all fluffed up. I had a mix of fear and excitement - what do I do now? The Dragon opened one golden eye and just stared at us. I remembered my reason for being there and asked the question - "How can I better manage my personal power?" As with most journeys, the communication was language but not verbal - mind to mind telepathy - and it was all one way. 

This is what I heard from the Dragon : "Firstly, you have already had the main lesson from your Spirit Teacher - if you would remember - Learn How To Listen!  Next, you have made four agreements with yourself but you have not managed to keep those agreements, I suggest that you remake those agreements and make more effort to abide by them. Next, you believe that raising your voice makes you more powerful - the opposite is true. Shouting is a sign of weakness and fear, by shouting you are giving away your personal power, not increasing it. 

You only have to listen to your cat to realise this, she is much wiser than you. You should take heed of her wisdom. The answers you seek are within you and if you would only learn how to listen then your power would increase and it would guide you on your path. That is all."

With that the Dragon just closed its golden eye and returned to its slumber. I turned and left the cave with my entourage. Food for thought indeed. (The picture above is the Earth Dragon from The Druid Animal Oracle by Will Worthington with Philip and Stephanie Carr - Gomm.)

How To Learn Shamanism

As I have mentioned in my previous posts - when you decide that you want to learn how to be a "Shamanic Person", it can be tricky deciding which path to go down. First thing to mention - You are NOT going to learn how to be an actual Shaman by going to workshops, going on retreats and doing online lessons. These will all help you to gain a shamanic view of the world and help you to grow and develop into what I call a "Shamanic Person". This is a person who has been born and raised in the industrialised, technological, agricultural, so called "civilised" world but doesn't really feel "at home" in it. Astral Bodies and the OBE

 Continuing from my last post - I will examine how the phenomenon of "Astral Travelling" and the Out of Body Experience relates to what is known as the Shamanic Journey in Core Shamanism and in the Toltec vernacular of Carlos Castaneda and don Juan Matus - "dreaming", "the second attention" and a "separate reality". From my own experience there is a fine line between all of these altered states of consciousness but there does appear to be a genuine difference. The Shamanic Journey as currently perceived in "modern" Core Shamanism relies heavily on the imagination and a semi trance state induced by rhythmic, monotonous drumming or use of a rattle.
