Can Shamans Predict The Future?

I have just seen an interesting TEDx talk on YouTube about some indigenous peoples who have Shamans who are "Oracles" - they go into trance and then predict the future, usually with unerring accuracy. Now, I am not saying that any of you guys are going to develop talents like this although I do know one lady who had this ability from an early age, long before she knew anything about Shamanism.

What the video does point out though is the extreme difference between our modern way of perceiving the world and the natural, animist way of perceiving it. While these people are honoured in their societies and are considered to be blessed with special and valuable talents - in our modern society they would be classed as mentally ill and filled with toxic mind numbing drugs. Please give this some deep thought and consider which point of view is the sane one.

This is the last post on this blog. I have spent over 5 years looking into what has become a "trendy" spiritual path for the unenlightened and curious. Although this is the "last post", I will be updating and adding stuff from time to time. As I have said elsewhere - no urban Westerner is ever going to become a Shaman (unless you get as lucky as Carlos Castaneda). Despite many "experts" criticism of Castaneda, I cannot recommend his books enough - to me, they are essential reading. The past 5 years of exploration have not changed my view on that. Finding My Power Animal

This is a record of my 4th or 5th shamanic journey. It is the second journey that I recorded in my journal. My journeys these days are less formalised and I tend to know where I am going - but these were early days. All I had to guide me were the (very good) instructions in Paul Francis ' book "The Shamanic Journey". I shall write exactly what I wrote down in my journal after the journey. This was written originally on October 1st 2018 at 7 am. I started to play a 30 minute drumming track. I set my intention to find my Power Animal by asking the "Great Spirit" to help me find my Power Animal on this journey. I left my body dressed in my monks habit with a hood. Stone Age, New Age or Virtual Reality Simulation?

 Here's the thing - "Shamanism" is just one word but it can mean all kinds of different things to different people. I have just started doing the First Steps course with Paul Francis and the Three Ravens College of Therapeutic Shamanism - more as a refresher for myself than an attempt to learn something new. (I have read all Pauls' books, so I am very familiar with his take on Core Shamanism). Paul is a great teacher but there is one thing he is very dogmatic about (an unshamanic trait) and that is his insistence that the "Lower World" is a pristine environment as would have been experienced by hunter gatherer humans living in what we call the "Stone Age". I am not saying he is wrong but this is not a universal belief among shamanic people.
